ほうれん草に含まれる「自然なアナボリック」エクジステロンが、WADA資金提供の研究で有効性が確認され、禁止対象になることが推奨されました。46名の若年男性を対象に10週間実施された試験では、筋肉量とベンチプレス1RMが有意に増加し、肝臓や腎臓の毒性マーカーは上昇しませんでした。作用機序はアンドロゲン受容体ではなくエストロゲン受容体への結合と考えられます。
